A nasty smelling drain in Riverview

“Nathan, are you getting the smell that I’m getting?” Lily asked.

“What smell would that be?” Her husband asked, unsure where this was going.

“You know, something like rotten eggs,” she answered shortly.

“ What is that smell?”

“I don’t know. It comes only when I work the washing machine,” she said.

Lily had been experiencing the unpleasant smell for several days now. At first she thought it would go away if she cleaned the washing machine properly. She had therefore cleaned the machine with bleach. When the smell did not go away, she had run the machine without clothes. But the stench was still there. Since the washing machine was in one corner of the kitchen, she was finding it hard to cook standing in the kitchen if the washing machine was turned on. Funny thing was, the smell came only when the washing machine was turned on. It did not come if the dishwasher or any other appliance was running!

“I guess it could be a blocked drain or something,” Nathan pondered, “Why else would it smell that way?”

With the question hanging in the air, the couple decided that it was best to leave it to the plumber to fix the blocked drain.

They had a good plumber, luckily. The man was really good. Not only was he obviously good at what he did, he was also very prompt. The first time they had called him, they had been bowled over with his service. Of course, the plumber had shrugged it off as a part of his duty and informed them that excellent service coupled with expertise contributed to their being the best plumbers in Linley Point, Longueville, Northwood, Lane Cove, Greenwich and Hunters Hill.

The plumber’s response was in line with their expectations. He agreed to come by in an hour and a half.

“Do you think it could be a blocked drain or something?” Nathan asked the plumber.

It didn’t take long for the Riverview plumber to identify the problem, it was a blocked sewer.

“You’re right. There’s a partial drain blockage downstream in the main drain line,” the plumber said.

He then proceeded to clear the drain. It took him almost an hour to clear the debris and the dirt. Finally, when he was done, they turned on the washing machine. This time, there was no smell whatsoever! Lily breathed a sigh of relief. She could not abide by the smell and she was happy that it was finally going away.
